An Oasis of Calm.
I punctured my thumb on a crab spine and it was bleeding so much I had to staunch it with a tissue until it stopped. It was like a scene out of The Northman. The gore. It’s a good thing Mrs. King wasn’t around. She would have totally freaked out. I took it stoically.
When one of these reports starts like that, you know this is going to be a real whizzbang day.
I am still at home in the back garden. Nothing much is going on. I think we’ve got another day of this. Tomorrow, though, I get to take Fluffy to the zoo.
I did get away long enough to visit Terranova’s to pick up some club soda and something for dinner—-always plan ahead! As I was leaving the shop, the guy who sleeps in City Park was walking by.
It is impossible for me to hide. Where you see my motor scooter, that is where I am. I park wherever I want, usually right by the front door. I have a special spot reserved in front of Terranova’s. Karen gave me permission. I will never be towed as long as a member of the Terranova family is alive.
So, the guy who sleeps in City Park was wearing a white Krewe of Iris tee shirt that he had just washed to get the dirt out. We had this long conversation about tee shirts. I didn’t have much to contribute to the conversation but the guy said that he is tired of wearing white tee shirts from all-women’s krewes. Iris is the oldest all-women’s krewe.
His last shirt was branded with the Krewe of Nyx. His next one in rotation is from Muses.
“I don’t know why this guy keeps giving me white shirts from women’s Mardi Gras krewes. I gotta find a new source.” I couldn’t help him. I don’t have tee shirts to spare. I gave him ten dollars.
When we parted company, the guy who sleeps in City Park said to me, “You are always looking good, Mr. King. Keep smoking those tires, brother!” Then, I wheeled away, whisper-quiet.
I don’t know what he meant by that last part. While I freely admit that I am a menace on the road, Das Scoot is not the General Lee.
Now, I am going to put the paywall right here so I can go walk around the garden and take some photos of my surroundings in my back garden that I will share after this page break.
