Candy Corn Hunt!
No candy corn available today at the Dollar General on the corner of Bienville and North Broad Streets. Shelves half full. Employee wearing headphones (Dr. Dre Beats) was stocking the candy aisle. The candy aisle was half-empty, too. A storm rolled through the city last night. People stocked up on household staples in case the worst happed.
The worst did not happen. The sun is out. The temperature is balmy and the humidity is low. This is a good day to be in New Orleans.
The clerk only had enough packages to put three to a space and there was too much empty space even for that ratio. Everything was name brand something or other, no best sellers but nothing that would make you say, "Man! I've gotta try that!"
After he took his headphones off, I asked the candy specialist when this season's candy corn is expected. "I don't know nothing about no candy corn, bruh, I just work here. You'll have to ask the manager."
“How’s your mominem?” I asked.
“Everybody’s good. Everybody’s good. Thank you for asking, Mr. King,” Henri said.
The manager was busy doing something or other for another customer. I wasn't interested enough to learn what their issue was and watch it resolved. I will look somewhere else for candy corn tomorrow. It is not like Halloween is around the corner. There is more than one dollar store in New Orleans.
Updates to follow.
