It is the first weekend of the main parade season. Lots of people in town. Lots of green, gold, and purple. Everyone is in a good mood, even your humble narrator.
Happiness loves company.
I went to the French Quarter at 2:00AM. It was too crowded for me. I couldn't even pull rank at my usual haunts--too much commotion and too much hassle. Even if I had gotten a seat, I would have been miserable. Most people from out of town are blind drunk at that time of day.
My whole lifestyle revolves around avoiding hassle.
It is 11:21AM as I write this. It is already busy. It is raining later today so the parade schedule has been moved forward. Everyone is eating in order to get down to Canal Street around 1:00. That is when the first floats should hit. It takes them about two hours to travel St. Charles Avenue.
I think there are four parades today. I have not really been paying attention.
Paid subscribers can go back in the archives to see how much attention I paid last year. The only thing I really look forward to is the skull and bones gang on Mardi Gras morning.
Steve and Lisa are coming for that. I just rubbed my hands together in anticipation. Their love for Mardi Gras is infectious.
This time of year, I am not the only bedazzled person in the room. There are rhinestones and dress fancy everywhere I look. The most magical day of the year is approaching.
Hold on. I just got a signal that I am needed elsewhere.
More to follow behind the paywall.
I just got a report from Substack. A tip of my fedora to all the new subscribers who signed up in January. It is nice to meet you. Enjoy the ride.
