Churches, Dwarves, and Hot Tomatoes.
This isn’t really about churches but my day started in a church and everything that happened after that happened behind the paywall.
Today started with Matins and Gregorian chant at St. Rita Roman Catholic Church on Broad Place. The church was crawling with seminarians.
St. Rita’s was built in the 1950s, in between styles, between traditional and modern. The church contains enough of both to be in harmony. St. Rita’s is not colorful but neither is it plain. It is peaceful inside and out, and, it is open all day long, should you want to visit.
Rita of Cascia is the saint with the stigmata on her forehead.
The painted statuary in St. Rita Church is beautiful, one could even call it sensuous, especially when compared to the unpainted statuary in St. Rita Church. The unpainted statues in St. Rita Church were carved by a heavy hand. Painting them would only accentuate their unreality.
The unpainted statues in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, which is only open when masses are held, are sensuous. They are older and marble. I do not know what the unpainted statues in St. Rita’s are made of. They look like cement. The only reason I am thinking about this is because the unpainted marble statue of St. Rita of Cascia at Our Lady of the Rosary’s is beautiful, the way a statue should be.
I do not know what will happen next but I do know a dwarf will be involved. I know this because I am looking at him. Today promises to be another interesting day.
It will probably be as interesting as Lundi Gras was. Every day is a parade. There is always more to follow behind the paywall. $1.75 per week. Do not tell me I am cutting into your charity budget. If I am, I prefer to not know.
