Longtime readers know my longtime fascination with Club She-She’s home to The Best Lunch Buffet in the East (TM). If the East (New Orleans East, that is) was its own city, it would be the fourth largest city. Only New Orleans, itself, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport would be bigger.
Right now, the No. 4 slot is taken by Metairie, which isn’t even a real place. It is unincorporated. “Mayor of Metairie” is a notional position. There are no elections. There is no government. If a parish can be a town, let it be called Metairie, a blot on the map.
The No. 4 incorporated Louisiana city now is Lafayette, with 121,000 people. That’s a lot of Cajuns. Lafayette is safe. The East is not going to break away from New Orleans proper anytime soon. There is too much to lose.
The East is a world of its own. I saddled up the iron pony and crossed the Danziger Bridge over the Industrial Canal. The speed limit on the Danziger Bridge is 35 mph. Nobody does that. If 55 saves lives, all 35 does is make you late.
It was 8:00 in the morning. It was cloudy and drear. The canal was placid this day. I was hoping to nab a bit of brunch. Rumor has it that, not only does Club She-She’s have the best lunch buffet, they also serve up a mean “Legs and Eggs Special” on weekend mornings.
My neighbor, Ed, told me about it. If anyone would know, it would be Ed.
It turns out Ed doesn’t know anything. Club She-She’s is closed on Sunday mornings. They closed two hours ago. I went all that way for nothing.
That errand ate up my morning, so I went home hungry.
More Gert Town starting tomorrow. I’ve had enough of this nonsense.
Went on Instagram to find club She She's to save as a potential stop when visiting New Orleans in the future, but I don't think I'll be going there, Mr. King LOL!
