Ether Party.
Let us see what this spermatologos has to say today…
There is a tire shop at the corner of North Galvez Street and Iberville Street. It is the lakeside, uptown corner. Idle men of a particular persuasion gather in the folding chairs on the sidewalk in front of this shop, or, they roost in the neutral ground to play chess and engage in an occasional thumb wrestling match. The place I am talking about is diagonally across from Star Lock & Key.
I saw Rudy having out with the gang in the North Galvez Street neutral ground. Rudy usually plants himself in the North Broad Street neutral ground. When I say usually, I mean usually. Rudy works at a local independent meat market, I am not saying which one, and he like to spend his break time railing at the world in the neutral ground.
Everyone needs a hobby.
Rudy has today off, so, he was playing chess with the layabouts and ne’er-do-wells who inhabit this neighborhood that has no name that I know of. There used to be a sign that the city put up that said, “Welcome to Lower Mid-City.” The sign was on North Galvez Street, in the neutral ground, right in front of the Sojourner Truth Community Center, or whatever it is called. It is a community center run by the city named after Sojourner Truth, who is a person who never had a New Orleans connection until people started to name things after her.
I am told Sojourner Truth was a great poet. I have never read her work. She had a great name. As regular readers know, I think names are important.
I think it is time to put the paywall up so that I get down to brass tacks and tell you about this ether party.
Only in New Orleans? I am not privy to enough data points to say. I am just a regular schmoe making is way through a Mid-City day.
