Honey Lemon.
Has anyone seen Honey Lemon? I am asking for a sad child who misses her cat. Honey Lemon is missing.
Honey Lemon is a white cat with brown patches on her coat. The brown matches the burnt sienna crayon in a Crayola box. Where Bayou Road crosses North Robertson Street is ground zero for the Honey Lemon search.
There are signs all over Tremé and the 7th Ward but they get thicker around Bayou Road. How far can Honey Lemon have wandered.
I think I saw Honey Lemon last night. I was walking Mrs. King’s dog on North Broad Street.
Mrs. King’s dog and I do not usually go as far as North Broad Street but I am interested in the recently vacated storefront on the corner of Broad and Orchid Streets, where Orchid Seafood used to be before they moved into the laundromat building.
Between where Orchid Seafood used to be located on one side of Orchid Street, and the shop’s new location, on the other side of Orchid Street, there is a shopping center in the middle that contains a tee shirt printing shop, a Subway sandwich chain, Ming Garden Chinese Restaurant, a nail salon, and a tax preparer.
With Orchid Seafood, Subway, and Ming Garden on that block, it has always been rare to see stray cats on that block of Broad Street between Orchid Street and Ursulines Avenue.
A calico cat has patches that are three colors, not two. I stood on the corner of North Broad and Orchid Streets with my arms akimbo. “Huh” I said to Mrs. King’s dog. “Whodathunk seeing a cat loose in this part of New Orleans.”
