Keep New Orleans Beautiful.
“Tis the season to be gorgeous. Of course, I say that all year long. Did you know there is no Keep New Orleans Beautiful branch? I am talking about Keep America Beautiful, the do-gooder organization founded in 1957. What brought this up? Don’t ask.
Okay, I’ll tell you. I am fretting over the trash in the Washington-Palmetto Canal. This is my city. What is the point of being forever out on patrol if I cannot make a difference?
Speaking of which, this showed up on the Lafitte Greenway the other day:
There is plenty of room for hatred in King’s world (ask me how I feel about Checkpoint Charlie’s), but not this kind: garbled anti-semitism (I think). It is often hard for me to discern what young people are talking about. I don’t feed off my cell phone. I miss landlines and all the lack of features and convenience that entailed. We would probably see a society-wide decrease in Pornography-Induced Erectile Dysfunction.
You never know what I am going to bring up. There are pills for it. I will spare you my diatribe about the state of the world.
The world needs more children.
Anyhow, I came across this park bench on Monday, one day into Pride Month. Pride is a sin. Since it was a professional execution vs. obvious graffiti, I called the Greenway to see what was up. A concerned citizenry is democracy in action. In America, we govern our own affairs. One never knows what passes for acceptable public discourse these days. I prefer to err on the side of my convictions. I am old enough to have some.
I am not against free speech, only when it’s on my dime. I donate to the Greenway, not to mention my tax dollars are at work. If my money supports this, then it can be better spent elsewhere, like on Mrs. King. It is very hard to find the Greenway’s phone number. I wonder why? I was curious if this was Greenway-sponsored or a random defacement of public property.
Did anyone else call? I am not at liberty to say. It took me two days to talk to somebody, and I, myself, am somebody. I am a real piece of work.
