It is 1:49AM in New Orleans. I am at the Abbey, the 24-hour dive bar on Lower Decatur Street with customers’ ashes in urns above the bar. It is so dark in here. I would much rather be at Aunt Tiki’s but I am in no mood to listen to death metal.
Service is terrible.
I wish somewhere else were open.
I am not going to Checkpoint Charlie’s. I have decided to be miserable right where I am.

Yesterday, the high was 38 degrees. Today it will be 65. Even now, it is in the 50s. It is winter in New Orleans.
