The sky over the New Orleans landscape was uncluttered by clouds last night. I took it as a signal.
Let me tell you what happened after that.
It is rare to hear zydeco music in New Orleans. Zydeco is cajun music, not creole. The soundtrack of a New Orleans day is all jazz and improvisation with very little French spoken, though the President of France, M. Emanuel Macron, is in the city today, as he tends to be somewhere every day. It is no big deal.
Nothing is a big deal in the fullness of time. A day in New Orleans is like life in a comic book.
The whole reason I am thinking about zydeco music at the moment is because I see that A-1 Appliance, Bedding, & Furniture is running an old-school style television commercial featuring Rockin’ Dopsie. This is a commercial along the lines of such fine institutions as Frankie and Johnny’s, Rosenberg’s at 1825 Tulane. It is in the tradition of Al Scramuzza, God bless him., I talked with him a few weeks ago. He is still himself. God love him. He still has the same hairstyle. It was like bumping into Al Lewis while he was still alive, R.I.P.
Al Lewis was Grandpa Munster. That is what Al Scramuzza looked like when I saw him last. Like I say, it was only a couple of weeks ago. Everything that happens in New Orleans is like a dream come true.
