Hard at work. I may be distracted from Gert Town for a while. I can hear you breathing a sigh of relief.
Be careful what you wish for.
Remember when I had that monkey fixation a few months back? Well, all of that has been assembled into a book. Here’s the thing: Just as it has no plot, no characterization, nor any dialogue to speak of, this book has no genre.
Here’s another thing: My editrix thinks it could use an appendix full of footnotes that explain what I am talking about. This makes prefect sense to me. It also provides me with a genre. Think Boilerplate.
So, my editrix has gone through all 124 pages of manuscript again and identified items I should annotate. As I say, I am going to be hard at work. She recommends the suspiciously odd number of 599 footnotes.
I think I can winnow that down a bit. I will be drafting them, as usual, here. This is going to cover the gamut of source material, folklore, and allusions. Unfortunately, monkeys will rarely be the subject matter. They are adequately featured in the main text, as you may recall.
“There are a lot of places I like, but I like New Orleans better.” -Bob Dylan.
“Everything is better with monkeys.” -Matthew King.
And, now, a parade is going by.
