I am at Liuzza’s-by-the-Track. After the day’s introductory pleasantries and catching-up, I asked Delaney if she knows anyone who goes by the handle of Nick Lobo. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
“Oh! You mean, Nick ‘Romeo’ Lobo, Mr. King! What you are doing getting mixed up with that character?”
I said that I understand that this Lobo character is quite the poet. Delaney clasped her hand over her heart while she rolled her eyes.
“Take a look at this,” Delaney said as she opened the drawer under the shelf where they keep the liquor nobody wants. It is where they keep the Aperol. She rummaged around and fetched out a handful of folded up papers.
I read one. In case you cannot guess what it said, I will tell you.
Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you Annie, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it?
You're gonna make it after all.
You're gonna make it after all!
They were all variations of the same thing. All he did was change the name. He is getting a lot of mileage out of this poem. I wonder how many days in a row I can keep bringing it up.
I told Delaney I had never met Mr. Lobo and I would like to. Delaney scowled.
“Romeo is out on the prowl long after you are in bed, Mr. King. He plays the accordion on the Natchez and the last cruise usually ends around nine o’clock if the current isn’t strong.”
Liuzza’s-by-the-Track closes around 9:00PM. Like most neighborhood bars, their hours of operation are -Until. They are open until it is time for them to close. In the case of Liuzza’s-by-the-Track, that is around 9:00PM daily. Liuzza’s-by-the-Track is closed on Sundays unless the Saints are playing. The last episode of Adventure Time is over at 9:00PM. It is some kind of cartoon that Delaney had to explain to me.
I really am at Liuzza’s-by-the-Track. I just asked Lisa to take a photo for documentary purposes. I never know when I will have to prove where I have been and when I was there. I am here now.
Now, I would like to tell you something really interesting. It is time to put up the paywall. Believe me, what I am going to talk about next is worth the price of admission.
