Professor Lovejoy.
What? Do you really think I am done with this Skunk Ape nonsense? Not yet. Try living with me. Mrs. King has the patience of a saint.
Prof. Lovejoy had never seen a skunk ape, even from afar, nor has he heard the skunk ape's bone-chilling cry. He was very familiar with the literature. The reason he was offered a job as junior professor in the cryptozoology department is because of his definitive work positively linking the Honey Island monster to other known (still without one being captured) skunk apes.
Prof. Lovejoy grew up in Connecticut's Quiet Corner. There are no skunk apes in New England. Young Ethan Lovejoy would not learn what a skunk ape until older in life, but, as lonely and winsome boy, he spent much of childhood wandering forests and fields, always thinking he saw something off in the distance. He attended Yale University, studying under the esteemed cryptozoologist, Dr. Ludwig Schwarz.
It was Dr. Schwarz who introduced Prof. Lovejoy to the skunk ape. The idea captivated our hero and he was determined to learn all he could from books about skunk apes.
