Rats in the Walls.
Rats in the Walls is a story written by H.P. Lovecraft, America’s greatest bad author. H.P. Lovecraft loved New Orleans. Like your humble narrator, H.P. Lovecraft loved everything old. I am at monday on a Friday. Whoop-de-doo.
Like many people I know, I do not enjoy monday, the restaurant spelled with that lower case m despised by spellchecked typists. Like many people I know, I do not enjoy lining the pockets and polishing the reputation of Sidney Torres IV.
Like many people I know, I do not begrudge Sidney Torres IV’s success. Like many people I know, I admire his business acumen and how he has parlayed his advantages to everyone’s benefit. Like many people I know, I would rock my world differently than Sidney Torres IV rocks his.
IV Waste is a better trash collector than Richard’s Disposal or Metro. The trucks are shinier, the trashmen are professional, in uniforms, and they are very polite when I am walking Mrs. King’s dog around the 7th Ward.
They are very efficient, too. IV trashmen know their routes and what day to be in what neighborhood. It is really quite amazing by New Orleans standards.
A trashman is a tradesman. There is nothing wrong with being a tradesman. It is much more valuable to civilization than being a flaneur. Never think that I do not know that.
I am in luck. I am evesdropping on two conversations and they are both related. I am telling you, I would make a very good private investigator, more mole than moll.
I am at monday because it was Sweet Boy’s idea to come here. I am starting to think of Sweet Boy as Sweetboy. I saves a keystroke and spellcheck does not flat it. Hello, Sweetboy.
Anyhow, there is a dead rat in the wall behind the bar at monday, that restaurant avoided by spellchecked typists of all persuasions for reasons. It is does not live up to its hype.
It is not like this newsletter lives up to its hype either, but, really, to really know what I am talking about, get the full story, really, you should, you really really should become a paid subscriber. Being a free subscriber is nice but being a paid one is twice as nice. Ask me about it in the comments. I always respond.
