Today was another incidental dance in the grand sweep of New Orleans history. Good old Ed. Ed and I occupy space like yin and yang making a whole.
Ed is the guy who introduced me to Kendrick Forbes so that he and I can start a podcast. We even have sponsors. Ed has that much street cred. The worth of Ed’s and mine street cred and a dollar will get you an egg.
New Orleans is an oyster holding more than one pearl. Kendrick Forbes is one among many. We should be collaborating shortly. Updates to follow.
Ed has a novelty license plate. Ed’s license plate reads, “SML PKG.”
I enjoy the company of complementary people. This is why I live where I do. I spent a few days in Connecticut recently, where I was born. It is good to be home in New Orleans.
ROTC students are marching around the neighborhood. They are not yet parade ground-ready. They slouch too much and their cadence is off. I joined in to see if I still have that muscle memory, which I already knew I do.
I followed behind, not wanting to show these raw boots how it is done. I followed for my own entertainment, marching as I was taught in the military. It was like riding a bicycle. People looking out the windows of their shotgun houses must have been bemused by the scene.
It is always nice to see people volunteering to serve their country, like Ukranians. As Volodymyr Zelensky said recently, I read it in the Wall Street Journal, “We can’t do as Russia does and drive people to war with batons.” The root of the word slave is Slav.
It is always nice to talk with grown adults, which I have done all day today. I am not saying a person has to be over fifty to be a grown adult, but, from personal observation, it helps. There is slim hope for some people, but, time heals all wounds.
I know more than one person who has not outgrown his or her adolescence. I am thinking about one in particular right now. It is no one that I talked with today, nor is it Vincent, who I, unfortunately, did not see today. Vincent is busy doing Vincent things. Talk about adult entertainment.
Keep those cards and letters coming, folks! I think only paid subscribers can leave comments. My email is NewOrleansLunch@gmail.com. I think that is right. Try it out. I will let you know if I receive your email. I am not looking for pen pals but I am always interested in feedback.
Now, let us see what else I want to talk about… I am sure it something. Oh, I know what it is. Big things come in small packages in New Orleans. I want to tell you about this mummified armadillo head I found on the street in front of Liuzza’s-by-the-Track. More to follow after the paywall.
