The Most Popular King Cake.
I was hanging out at an empty checkout line on North Carrolton Avenue. Does Rouse’s have the most popular king cake on the Gulf Coast? There is an argument to be made that would convince me. Rouse’s is our local supermarket chain. Rouse’s has the widest reach in the captive king cake market that is the Gulf Coast, as well as inland.
Why wouldn’t Rouse’s be the most popular king cake on the Gulf Coast? Rouse’s is the 800 lb. gorilla in the king cake market. Given a choice between Rouse’s and Winn Dixie, you know you are going to Rouse’s for your king cake. It is the only binary option that makes sense.
You could go anywhere else in New Orleans to get a better king cake. Along the Gulf Coast? I dunno.
New Orleans is anything but binary. We live in a city full of king cake choices. Follow your nose. New Orleans is fifty shades of purple, green, and gold.
The King Cake Hub is at Zony Mash this year, right at the bend in South Broad Street, where the Melpomene Pumping Station is, at the old Hub Cap King.
More to follow in a moment.
